Welcome back to another exciting episode of Boss Body! My special guest, Lisa McCoy, a renowned joy expert, took us on an insightful journey of understanding and cultivating joy. Here’s a recap of this uplifting conversation.

In today’s chaotic and demanding world, differentiating between joy and happiness is crucial. Happiness often feels fleeting, dependent on external circumstances that are ever-changing. Lisa helped us to see that joy runs deeper; it’s an internal state of being that can coexist with life’s complexities and challenges. This distinction is a game-changer!

Points Covered in This Episode

Joy School: Elevating Personal Vibration

One of the most captivating parts of our conversation was when Lisa introduced Joy School. This platform helps individuals apply contemporary spirituality to elevate their personal vibration. It’s all about reclaiming our natural state of joy, love, and peace. Joy School teaches us that clinging to happiness and pushing away other emotions can actually do more harm than good. Instead, finding beauty and meaning in all emotions, including those we usually avoid like grief and anger, is a healthier and more fulfilling approach.

The Essence of Joy: Soul-Based and Innate

Lisa elaborated that joy, love, and peace are our soul’s essence. This intrinsic joy is often blocked by early childhood wounds, whether they result from intrusive or neglectful experiences. These wounds shape our beliefs and can hinder our natural state of joy. Understanding this concept was crucial for me, as it explained why we often feel we need to earn love, worth, and success externally—an exhausting and unfulfilling endeavor.

Childhood Wounds: The Struggle to Feel “Enough”

Most of us carry childhood wounds that lead us to believe we must constantly prove our worth. Lisa and I discussed this struggle extensively, shedding light on why many people, particularly women, feel the pressure to be “enough.” The societal pressure to look, act, and be a certain way interferes with our genuine joy and self-worth. And honestly, who hasn’t felt this way?

One of the most practical parts of our conversation was when Lisa discussed tools for increasing joy and alignment. Recognizing triggers and responding with self-compassion, love, and relaxation were emphasized as methods to release old wounds. Lisa shared that relaxing the body signals safety, allowing us to process and release old wounds. This reduces their impact and occurrence over time.

Suppressed Emotions and Coping Mechanisms

Avoiding emotions is a common coping mechanism, but it often leads to unhealthier habits, like turning to food for comfort. Lisa and I emphasized the need to accept, acknowledge, and pour love into negative emotions instead of resisting or denying them. It may sound counterintuitive, but it’s incredibly freeing!

Joy Set Points: Elevating the Baseline Joy Level

Lisa introduced us to the concept of “joy set points.” By releasing emotional blocks, we can elevate our baseline joy level, allowing us to experience more joy regularly. For those intrigued by this, Lisa is offering a free workshop on discovering one’s joy set point on her website. And check out her book, “Free Your Joy: The Twelve Keys to Sustainable Happiness,” a must-read for anyone on this journey.

Our conversation ended on a high note of gratitude and encouragement. We invite you to explore your unique path to joy.  The journey towards genuine joy is not always easy, but it’s certainly worth every step.
