Hey everyone! In our latest episode of the Boss Body Podcast, Thalia Pellegrini and I dove deep into a topic that’s crucial for women’s health: perimenopause. Thalia, a nutritional therapist and former BBC journalist, shared a ton of wisdom on how we can navigate this transition with more ease and grace. So many gems emerged from our conversation. Here are some of the key points Thalia and I discussed during the episode.

Understanding Perimenopause
Thalia started our conversation by reminding us that perimenopause, the period leading up to menopause, is not something to dread. Symptoms like mood swings, hot flashes, and migraines signal that our hormones are in flux. Rather than viewing these changes negatively, Thalia encourages us to see them as our body’s way of communicating that something needs attention.

The Superpower of Hormones
Many of us have been conditioned to think of our hormonal cycles as a burden, but Thalia flipped that script in our conversation. Hormones can be a superpower when they’re balanced, and achieving a healthy menstrual cycle is key. She stresses that having a symptom-free menstrual cycle makes the transition into perimenopause much smoother.

Listen to Your Body
One point we can’t emphasize enough is the importance of self-care. Our bodies send us signals—like headaches, mood changes, and low libido—that tell us something is off. Ignoring these signs or chalking them up as “normal” can lead to more severe symptoms during perimenopause. Instead, we should be nurturing our bodies with good nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and adequate relaxation.

Starting the Day Right
Thalia also pointed out the importance of starting your day with a nourishing meal. Whether you’re experimenting with fasting or not, the first meal you consume has a significant impact on your overall well-being. Ensuring that this meal is rich in nutrients sets a positive tone for the rest of the day.

The Liver: Your Detox Powerhouse

Did you know that the liver performs over 500 processes every day? This organ is a powerhouse when it comes to detoxification and overall health. Signs that your liver might need some help include inflammation, fatigue, allergies, and even dark circles under your eyes. Supporting liver function is crucial, especially during transitions like perimenopause.

Reducing Chemical Exposure
Thalia shared some eye-opening facts about chemicals in our daily environment. On average, women absorb about 168 chemicals daily just from beauty products. These chemicals can mimic hormones and contribute to issues like PCOS and endometriosis. By being aware of and reducing our exposure to these endocrine disruptors, we can support our hormonal health at every stage of life.

Don’t just accept discomfort as part of life. Empower yourself to understand what your body is communicating and seek the support you need. I hope you found our conversation rich and informative. We are already planning to have Thalia back on Boss Body to delve deeper into women’s health.
