Sleeping less = eating more.

Nighttime is when your body repairs and renews itself and hormones regulate. If you’re not getting at least 7-8 hours you’ll have lower levels of leptin (the hormone that makes you feel full) and higher levels of ghrelin (the hormone that signals hunger).

2. Lower stress

When you’re stressed, you release the hormone cortisol. When cortisol levels are chronically high, blood sugar and insulin (the fat-storage hormone) are also high.

You end up with more belly fat and possibly insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes.

3. Eat hormone-balancing foods

Foods that sabotage your hormones:

  • sugar and refined carbohydrates, like deserts, white bread, cereal, and pretzels
  • fried foods
  • artificial sweeteners and other chemicals and preservatives
  • alcohol (I know – total bummer!!)
