As you’ve probably noticed, there are so many diets out there these days that encourage low or no-carb eating.

And it can be really enticing to follow these plans when you see people dropping tons of weight in a short amount of time.

There’s so much confusion around carbs, I want to answer the question, once and for all, and clear up any misconceptions.

Can you eat carbs if you’re trying to release weight?

The short answer is, yes, 100%!

You not only CAN, you SHOULD. We need carbohydrates to live, function, and create energy. If you cut out healthy carbs, you’re depriving your body of key nutrients and vitamins that your body needs to function at its best.

People drop weight when they cut out carbs, not because carbs are “bad,” but, most likely, because:

  1. They were WAY overeating carbs in the first place. America has become such a carb-heavy country, that we’re eating them in large quantities at every meal. Much more than veggies, protein, and fiber.
  2. They were eating too many unhealthy carbs and not enough healthy ones. Simple carbs are the processed, convenience food we’ve become so accustomed to eating (white bread, pasta, cereal, french fries, white rice….). They’ve had all had the real nutrients stripped from them, causing them to go straight into your bloodstream, creating a host of negative effects, like high blood sugar and fat storage.

The key to consuming carbs AND releasing weight

Switch from unhealthy, processed carbs to healthy, complex carbs, like whole foods, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables that lots of nutrients and fiber. And eat them in a balanced way.

It’s that simple.

You’ll start seeing the weight dropping off, cravings going down, and energy going up.
