We’ve all been there—we put on an outfit, look in the mirror and just do not like what we see.

Maybe we feel uncomfortable with what we’re wearing and just don’t like how we’re feeling in it, or maybe we’re just not feeling good about ourselves.

Anyone who has been there knows that these feelings can be difficult to navigate, and can really put a damper on your day.

So, how can we turn that around and start to feel more confident and comfortable with what we wear? Let’s talk about it some more.

Why do so many of us lack confidence in what we wear?

The reasons why some people lack confidence in what they wear can differ from one person to another. After all, women come in many unique shapes and sizes, which are all beautiful in their own ways, but there’s still a lot of societal pressures that we deal with between what we see in the media, and what a lot of us have been conditioned to think what the “ideal” size and look should be.

For some, they may feel frustrated about finding things that work for their particular body shape, or feel as though there aren’t enough options.

For others, it could be more psychological, for instance people still holding on to old doings or old traumas. Luckily today, there are so many more options that are allowing women of all shapes to be able to find what they love, and own it with complete confidence.

How to look and feel more confident when you step out the door.

What if I told you that a lot of the progress made in changing our outlook on how to look and feel more confident in what we wear starts within ourselves? Here are some things you can start doing as soon as today to help you get there:

Focus on what you love, instead of what you can’t do.

Often we spend a lot of time focusing on what we can’t do and that overtakes a lot of our energy and attitude.

For instance, we may get discouraged about walking into certain stores and not being able to find something we like or would be able to wear. But, at the end of the day, even if it may not be many things, we end up finding something that we do love, and DOES make us feel good.

Focusing on that one thing is much more significant that dwelling on the things that may not be attainable for us in this present moment.

Identify what you do love, go all in and focus on more of what makes you happy.

Accentuate the parts of you that you love.

No matter how big or how small of a detail it is, identify something about you that you love and accentuate that part of you!

Accentuating the aspects of you that you love is such a minor change that can play such a large role in your confidence. You start to love more of what you see when you do that, and you end up changing the narrative of how you feel about yourself.

This also goes hand in hand with wearing the patterns of colors that bring you joy. Focusing on your likes will always outweigh the dislikes!

Let go of the things that no longer serve you.

We all come from different walks of life, and have all been through many different seasons. It’s so easy to hold on to things that remind us of those older seasons, but the way you see yourself won’t truly start to change until you let reminders of the past go.

Step out with confidence no matter what.

Remember, confidence is the sexiest thing of all. No matter what shape or size you are, owning who you are and showing up with confidence is always going to ripple to those around you. It’s truly magnetic!

Once you start wearing things that you enjoy and you feel a little more confident, it’s going to reflect on those who see you. That’s exactly what we want!

Feeling comfortable and confident in your own skin and in what you wear doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, but it is possible. Your body should and deserves to be celebrated for all that it does for you, rather than solely for what it looks like! Even if you have to pretend in the beginning, do what you can to start to feel the confidence you believe.
