Releasing fat, burning fat, eating fat…..

If you’re on a health journey, the topic of fat is probably top of mind.

When it comes to diet, fat gets a bad rap. But there are tons of misconceptions out there, and I want to clear up some myths and teach you the true secret to burning fat and keeping it off.

#1 myth about fat:

Eating a low fat diet is the way to lose weight. The idea that eating fat is what causes us to gain weight has been disproven by science.

Many doctors and nutritionists once viewed a “low fat” diet as the answer to weight loss and managing health issues. The Food Pyramid, created by the FDA, even encouraged a diet consisting of mostly bread and grains and cutting out fat wherever possible.

We’ve since learned the main culprit isn’t fat, it’s sugar and processed foods that cause weight gain, obesity, and type II diabetes!

Fat storage is mostly do to our overconsumption of carbohydrates, especially unhealthy ones like sugar, white bread, chips, and pasta – which is all too common in US diets.

#2 myth about fat:

Foods labeled low-fat are always healthier.

As a matter of fact, low fat foods usually contain much higher amounts of sugar to make up for the loss of flavor from fat. Always check labels and compare sugar content in the low-fat version vs regular.

The truth:

It’s important to eat healthy fats in moderation every day for good health. Fat is necessary for energy, hormone production, vitamin absorption, healthy cells, and growth and development.

How to burn fat:

Eat healthy fats. Eating healthy fats – like those found in foods like olive oil, fish, avocados, nuts, and eggs – can actually help with fat loss by increasing satiety and speeding up the metabolism.

Plus, they’re key to giving your body more energy without the weight gain that comes with eating unhealthy fats – like butter, margarine, shortening, lard, hydrogenated and vegetable oils, and beef or pork fat.

Switching to healthy fats and eating fewer processed and convenience foods, is the secret to getting the fat off and seeing the results you want!
